Too Nervous to Come Up With a Clever Title Here
So I got this e-mail from the publisher I sent the manuscript for Learning Curve to:
Ms. Spangler:
I would like to discuss your manuscript, "Learning Curve," with you via phone. I expect we would need 30-40 minutes.
Can you give me a time on Monday or Tuesday of next week that would work for you between 8:30 am to 6 pm EST, plus a phone number where I may reach you? If those times are not good for you, please suggest alternates including earlier or later and we can set something up. I am also available this Sunday from 10:30 am to noon but most people don't work 7 days a week, so I offer that only if you'd like an earlier time.
Thanks and looking forward to speaking with you.
And it was signed by the president of the publishing company (and author of many books)
So we have set up a time to speak, and while the book obviously hasn't been accepted as is, I am thinking that the president would not be calling me herself to reject me outright either.
So, my nervousness exists on many levels. 1) This is a woman who is like the big wig of lesbian fiction and I am a major fan of her work. 2) I want to make a good impression, but you all know me and my uncanny ability to stick my foot in my mouth. 3) I have no idea what to expect out of this phone call.
Since you all are wiser and more experienced in this area . . . Any suggestions?
Rach

I'm glad you asked, Rach, as I can think of no one who knows more about publishing lesbian novels than I do ... :-)
Seriously, though, this is excellent news and I'm so happy for you ... This will make our ski trip this week truly a celebratory occasion ...
As for the talk, in my experience, creative writers are all wack-jobs and I'm certain this woman expects you to be nutty as a Christmas fruitcake ... it would be hard for you to screw it up!

And how did that conversation go Rach?
