Snow, Drywall, Jim's Birthday

Okay, since Susie insists, I'll post about my weekend.

The plan was to leave Rochester after my classes on Friday, getting me into Houghton around 9:30. That would give me all day Saturday and part of Sunday to help Jim drywall his living room and dining room & help him celebrate his birthday.

I left on schedule and then hit snow just over the bridge.

Made it as far as Epoufette (e-pe-fete) to this charming little road-side inn.
The Skyline Motel...

Had a lovely...okay incredible...bowl of chicken noodle soup and salad bar at the town's "other" restaurant, the Bayview Inn... The front of the motel hides its real beauty, the view of Lake Michigan in the back...

When I got to Jim's around noon on Saturday, he and Eric had already done all of the demo work, leaving us with a blank canvas on which to hang lovely (heavy) drywall...

We worked until around 7:00 and then the three of us went for dinner at Quincy's...I had the salmon, Jim had a burger, Eric got prime rib. Then Eric dropped us off at home, Jim proposed, I said "YES," and then we met Eric around 9:30 to see that new movie Borat...very funny.

Still reading? No, I'm not kidding!

We finished up hanging the drywall & I left around noon on Sunday...

So that was my weekend, my happy, happy, happy, happy (joy, joy) weekend.

I'm so happy for both of you. We're speculating on the last name you'll choose--maybe Ostergent? Nugaard? Happy happy joy joy! Was it better than defending your dissertation?

Thanks all for the good wishes.

The date is unknown, the wedding plans are unplanned, and I have no idea about the name thing...

I'll keep you all posted, though.

The ring is being sized, but I pick it up tomorrow, so I'll try to get a picture up then...it's lovely, was Jim's great grandmother's ring, very delicate and vintage, some of you will see it in Nashville.

The soup was homemade, warm and homey on a stormy night. The noodles held up surprisingly well in the rich broth (I hate soggy noodles), and the chicken was pulled (rather than cubed) and mostly delicious dark meat.

I think that covers the questions above...

Oh, Susie, it was much better than defending the diss.

My two cents: pregnancy - easier said that done.
