Reminiscences of my first day of TA training

If you read the WPA-L, you might've just read Claire's post about the writing habits of extroverts. In it she said that she and Will can absolutely fill a room with extroversion, to which I say, AMEN. Imagine you're quiet and shy Brad, and on your very first day of teacher training you meet both Claire and Will, along with some of the other new master's students like Lori Kicksass, Katie F. and Amy (Can't remember her last name). You start to think to yourself, "Do I have to talk this much if I want to become a teacher?"

Luckily, though, I was able to sit in a back corner of the room where there was a burnt-out bulb and it was a little darker. I got to know Mike M., Bruce and Khaled, and I think Lori O. came to join us for awhile, and I sighed a huge sigh of relief. : )

Me? Extroverted? Slightly overwhelming? How can that be ... Good thing you came after Kia Jane!

    Hey Nikki.

Sorry I don't remember you from my first day. Perhaps my memory is a bit foggy because of who I was living with at the time... : ) I think I met you later that week, though.

Oh Will, yes you are right about Kia, she was more E than me and Jennie and Nikki together! And Brad, I would apologize for the extroverts, but we can't help it, we love and need people!

I'd like to point out that I was NOT an extrovert. Y'all scared the crap out of me as well. In case we've forgotten, I hung in out quietly being intimidated by Amy Rossi, Lori Kixmiller, and Cheri Rankin...until Lori O told me that I was no longer in the program...no, I will never forget that lovely moment. :)

Nikki and I shoulda sat in back with the lovely introverts.

Of course, my first day of training I was at a table with Kia, Jenny, and Jessica...lovely & sweet Kia who was my first PA. And there I was wanting to be at Will's table where the one-liners were flyin'.

Still, sitting with Jenny and Jess was one of the best things that ever accidentally happened to me...

Will, who was it that asked Jan which one of us (me, Jenny, Jess) was dating you? That one still makes me giggle...was it R. Tarr?
