So after going to a couple of liquor stores last night looking from some Sam Adams and finding nothing remotely like it in any store, I finally asked a woman, "Do you have any beer?"
Woman: "No, it's illegal?"
Me: "Beer is illegal?"
Woman: "It'll illegal to sell beer in liquor stores."
Me: giving my most puzzled expression.
Woman: "In New York you can't sell beer anywhere you sell liquor. You have to go to a grogery store for beer and a liquor store for liquor."
So I went to the store and sure enough found beer but no liquor. I'm still a little confused by this whole thing. I mean I know it's not wise to mix your alcohol, but making it illegal to do so is a bit much if you ask me. :)

Rachel and Susie,
We have that too!!!! We just chalked it up to living in Mormon country. Wenatchee has one, count 'em, ONE "liquor store." It closes at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night. And you can't get liquor at grocery stores, only beer and wine. So if you want to drink, you need to plan ahead.

Illinois had some of the best liquor laws (or rather, best because none) I've seen.
MA had blue laws with no liquor after 9 sat and all day Sunday...like Colorado...eventally better heads prevailed and the laws were abridged so you can buy after noon (read: after church) on Sunday...but that's the Puritan in them.
My issue with MI is a 10 cent deposit per bottle on top of paying from $8-10 for an average six pack of ale.
Time to start my home brew hobby!

None after 9 on Sat???? Some people aren't even getting started by then. I suppose bars are still open then?

Georgia and NC are similar. Georgia has no liquor of any kind on Sundays or holidays, but sells liquor and beer together -- if you have a "wet" county -- in liquor stores, but NO liquor in the grocery -- that blew my mind when I moved to Illinois ...
In NC, no liquor after 9:00, all liquor is sold at ABC stores only (some government regulation going on), and liquor and beer not sold together ... how strange to relearn one's alcohol ...
