Is it too early for students to do really stupid things?
Though I was never really one to get into the drinking spirit of Killarney's, tonight I am missing the camraderie of it all. Sharing the ever-too-salty popcorn, eying enviously the greasy pizza that Rachel would order, moving out of the way so the designated drink-getter could go back up to the bar and order for everyone....ah...
Anyway, here's a student story to get you all going. I teach two Tech Writing courses on TR, one at 9:35 and the other at 2:00 pm. This one student, a male, misses the first day in the 2:00 section. On day 2, he arrives at the right room at the right time. On Day 3 (this past Tuesday) at 10:00 am, I am just getting settled into a surprisingly good conversation with my first TW class, seated in a large circle, when someone starts shaking the door. (We're in 408 and the door automatically locks from the outside when you shut it). Looking confused because we're all there, one of my students lets the poor fool in. This kid proceeds to walk across the room, grab a chair, move it across the room, and sit down. All the while the room has fallen silent and is watching him. I look at him knowing I should know him, but not sure who he is. I ask. He tells me. I tell him he's a little early for his class since he's in the 2:00 section later that day. He looks at me, then says "Kay," gets up and leaves. As soon as the door shuts, one of my other students shouts out, "Dude! That dude was like 4 hours early!!" I'm sure the poor kid could hear it as he walked away. I felt bad, but come on!!! That was pretty sad. Day 2 of the semester. This could be a long one.

It's never too early for stupid! I've heard of missing class or going to the wrong room, but I've never heard of anyone going to the wrong section! that's great.

I had a roomate in college who had a night class and went to the wrong room. When the prof came in and she realized she was in an economics class instead of an English class she did not get up and leave, which is what everyone else would have done. Instead she sat there for the first hour and half. WHen she came back abd told me I told her she was an idiot. Wrong room on the first day in not a big deal, wrong time and room on the third class? COme on!

Know that nightmare where you show up for a final and it's the wrong room (and you're naked) and you run from room to room, frantic, but you can't find the right roon?
Happened to me. Apparently I was distracted by something shiney when the prof was telling us that our final would be held in another building on campus. Even without the naked bit, it was still pretty terrifying and embarassing....
