Deep Fried Goodness
Welcome to small town U.S.A. It looks the same all over!

We decided to partake in some small town fun tonight. We went to check out the Fredonia Farm Festival. The Festival is very Stars Hallow and filled with crap booths. We spent an hour walking around checking out all of the jewerly and painted signs/benches/birdhouses etc. Some of it was cute, some was interesting, some was just plain scary.
After perusing the craps for about an hour, we moved on to the main event. We were really there for the food, so we headed to the main row of tents filled with deep friers. We made the rounds picking up fried chicken strips, fried cheese, and curly fries. It was fantastic!
After digesting we went back to the crap boths and bought Christmas presents for the members of our families that are into that sort of thing and started to carry them back to the car. However, we decided that our arteries had not been punished enough yet, so we made a stop off back at the deep friers and picked up an elephant ear and deep fried candy bar. Yes, that's right. A deep fried candy bar. It was so good that I could feel myself getting fatter with each bite.
All in all the whole experience seemed very midwestern and made us feel right at home. I think we will probably go back tomorrow for round two!

Jim and I traveled all the way to South Dakota last week and attended a county fair there...
On the menu? A walking taco...
Open a bag of Doritos on the side, pour in meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato, top with salsa and sour cream and, voila!
For dessert we had mini-donuts covered in cinnamon and sugar.
YUM!
I envy you your small town...mine is crammed with chain stores and restaurants! Lacks character.

You're making me misty-eyed for the DeKalb CornFest, which started yesterday and features Survivor in the Beer Garden on Sunday.... How the mighty have fallen : )

We attempted to hit the Normal cornfest today - rain was not pleasant. It was wet and we got no corn...sniffle.

I never went to the tomatoe fest, but we used to go to the seafood fest on the river and this was a lot smaller. Did you ever go the stawberry fest in central FL? This was smaller than that too, but about the same level of craps.

Ah, you gotta love a fest, and no fest is complete without the consumption of much fried food. The really important question, though, is were there deep-fried Twinkies available? Much like bungie jumping, I'd damn sure never do it again, but I'm glad I tried it once. :)
